Brain Fog – What is it? And How Nootropics Can Help

I think we’ve all been there… those times when we just can’t think clearly – or at least not as clearly as we want or need at that moment. You may take some solace in knowing it happens to just about everybody. But if you’re like me, I’m sure you’d rather avoid these lapses in clarity altogether. So today I’m going to give some tips on how to keep your mind sharp. I’ll start by answering “what is brain fog?”, and then review some of its common causes. More importantly, I’ll also provide some simple, practical solutions you can use to help improve your mental performance and focus every day.

Brain Fog Definition

Mental clarity is commonly defined as having a focused and clear state of mind. In other words, your thoughts are calm, not overwhelmed, and not clouded with indecision, worry or doubt. “Brain fog” separates us from this serene and productive mind. Although it is not a medical condition, brain fog is recognized as those symptoms that can affect our ability to think. It can make us feel confused, disorganized or unable to focus. It may also make it difficult for us to put thoughts into words.

Obviously, the inability to think and speak clearly can lead to an assortment of undesired impacts, many of which may sound familiar. You may not remember things you just read or heard, forcing you to go back and repeat your research. Or perhaps your writing skills seemingly evaporate, leaving your essay or article full of errors you didn’t notice while writing. There are also many cases of people going on “auto-pilot” and driving to work on the weekend rather than the intended grocery store. I’m sure you can think of many other ways in which you’ve personally been affected by a distracted mind.

In the least, brain fog can cause wasted time and effort, among other inefficiency. At its worst, a foggy brain could put lives at risk due to inattentive operation of machinery and tools. Regardless of the level of mental fog, it is important to recognize that it is harmful to productivity (and safety). Therefore, we should try to understand its sources, and the means to minimize it.

Do Nootropics Really Help Clear Brain Fog?

Common Causes of Brain Fog and Simple Solutions

Now that we know what brain fog is and how it expresses itself, here are some of the more common reasons we can’t think clearly. Although this list is not all inclusive, it should give you a better idea of things in your life that may be affecting your brain performance, and what you can do about it.

Not Enough Water

Simply put, if you are dehydrated, your physical and mental functions will suffer. Be sure you are drinking enough water each day, especially if you are very active. For an added boost, rejuvenate with Hydrogen Water!

Eating Habits

Modern life forces many to eat on-the-go, or rely on fast food and snack packs. And that’s if we’re not skipping meals, altogether. Unfortunately, if your brain does not have access to the right fuel, your cognition will suffer. Try to eat a balanced diet and include all the nutrients you need to stay healthy and productive.

Medical Conditions

Sadly, some medical-related items can affect your clarity of mind, too. Work with your doctor to get the correct diagnoses and the best treatments for your situation in order to minimize or alleviate any cognitive impacts.

  • Hormone Changes – such as puberty, monthly cycles and menopause
  • Allergies – some reactions can cause brain fog, so identify your allergies
  • Medications – some have side effects that can impair clear thinking
  • Disease – a number of illnesses are tied to brain fog and mental fatigue

Lack of Good Sleep

I think we’re all already aware of this, but it has to be mentioned here. Too little sleep and poor sleep quality can definitely interfere with how well your brain functions. Sleep is important for you in many ways, so shoot for 8 hours of sleep per night.

Too Much Stress

Life these days is stressful! Whether you are working late or thinking about family issues, stress can be mentally exhausting and harmful to your health. And when your brain is exhausted, it becomes harder to think, reason, and focus.
In order to minimize stress-related brain fog, try some of these solutions:

NOOTROPICS – More Ways to Help Clear Brain Fog!

I’ve recently been interested in the world of “nootropic drugs”. The brain controls so much of our mood and our ability to understand and interact with everyday life. So it is amazing to think about all that can be improved when we optimize -or even enhance- our brain functions.

What are nootropics?
Nootropics are drugs, supplements, and other substances that have a positive impact on mental skills. They are designed -and taken- with the intent of improving cognitive function, memory, creativity, motivation and mood.

If you have anxiety or can’t sleep, there are nootropics to help. If you need something to help you focus, there are nootropics for that. Even if you don’t suffer from any of the above, you may occasionally feel a veil come over your thoughts. Or you may be in good health, eating and sleeping properly, and staying hydrated yet still feel there is room to improve your mood and cognition. If that is the case, then: nootropics!

In general, nootropics can be categorized in one of three ways: dietary supplements, synthetic compounds, and prescription drugs. We like to keep things natural, and leave prescription medicines to the doctors; therefore, we’ll focus on dietary supplements to help the brain. The idea is to optimize the amount of specific micronutrients in your body -and particularly your brain- in order to optimize performance.
