Prolon FMD Review: Does the Fasting-Mimicking Diet Actually Work?

Prolon FMD Review: Does the Fasting-Mimicking Diet Actually Work?

It’s not much of a secret… During the pandemic quarantines I added a bit of a “COVID Cushion” around my waist. Although it may not have been the full on “COVID-15”, as some call these pandemic pounds, I was carrying a bit more than I wanted to. So despite any cute name, the extra weight had to go and my eating habits had to change. That led me to trying ProLon’s 5-Day Fasting-Mimicking Diet.

To my pleasant surprise, my results were better than expected. Sure I lost weight, but more importantly, I gained a better connection with my food. And on top of that I gained knowledge about how fasting works and why it is so beneficial to our health. I encourage you to read all about it here, in my first ProLon FMD review.

Even after sharing my results, I am often asked, “Does ProLon work?” Like -with some skepticism- does it really work? In short, YES! But in order to truly answer this question appropriately, I’d like to do two things. First, I’ll quickly review the goals of fasting and the associated health benefits that ProLon promotes. Then I’ll share my results from my second round on the ProLon 5-Day Fasting-Mimicking Diet.

What are your fasting goals?

When people ask me about the efficacy of the ProLon 5-day fasting-mimicking diet, the first thing I have them consider is: does it work for what? It really starts with intentions and expectations. Once I know what your goals are, then I can tell you if ProLon is right for you.

I want a cheap meal that will fill me up!

If you want to eat for cheap and fill really full, then the FMD is probably not for you… Normally priced at $250 for a five-day meal kit, ProLon is meant to nurture you with minimal food. The science behind the diet brings many benefits, but fullness is not really one of them.

A $250 meal kit may be a challenge. But at $50 a day, which might be spent on dining out anyway, remember that Prolon is more than just meals. This investment in yourself supports your weight-loss goals, overall health and longevity.

Can ProLon help me lose body fat?

Lose Stubborn Belly Fat

Yes. Most people who go on a very-low-calorie diet will observe weight loss since the body will need to utilize fat stores in order to fuel itself. In a study led by Dr. Valter Longo participants on ProLon FMD lost an average of 6 pounds and experienced greater reductions in belly fat than the control group.

Can ProLon FMD help with my high blood sugar?

Yes. In that same study, participants who had high blood sugar at the beginning of the study saw their blood sugar levels drop into the normal range by the end of it. In another animal study, four days of the diet every week for 60 days prompted regeneration of damaged pancreatic cells, promoted healthy insulin production, reduced insulin resistance, and led to more stable levels of blood glucose in mice with diabetes. These results are promising for humans.

I have high LDL levels. Could ProLon help reduce cholesterol?

Yes again. In Dr. Longo’s study, cholesterol was reduced by 20 mg/dl in those with high cholesterol levels. The fasting promotes health body and organ functions which reduce levels of cholesterol.

I tend to overeat. Could fasting help me control that?

A healthy portion of healthy vegetables

Absolutely! Because your stomach will shrink during the 5-day fasting-mimicking diet, you will naturally eat less and more quickly feel more full when you eat afterwards. Further, you will have become more aware that large portions are not needed to keep you fueled, so you’ll be more conscientious of your portion sizes. I want to improve my overall health. Does ProLon help do that?

Definitely! In addition to the benefits listed above, fasting with ProLon can help with a number of other ailments, and promote overall longevity.

  • Fasting reduces markers of inflammation, such as C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interferon gamma (ifnγ), leptin, interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), and interleukin 6 (IL-6).
  • Fasting has also been shown to optimize autophagy, which may protect against mental decline and slow cellular aging. Learn more about this cellular “house cleaning” process here.
  • Other studies demonstrate that fasting increases the generation of nerve cells and enhances brain function.
  • Fasting has been shown to decrease insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) – a hormone that, at high levels, can increase the risk of certain cancer, such as breast cancer.

My (second) ProLon results

As I had shared in my first ProLon FMD review, I lost nearly eight pounds of body fat during my initial experience on the 5-Day Fasting-Mimicking Diet plan. After fasting with ProLon, I felt so great that I committed to doing it again. Because ProLon is safe to do once per month, I did not hesitate to do the FMD just four weeks after completing my first round. I do have to admit that I did put a few pounds back on during my weeks of “regular eating”. However, I’m proud to say I did keep off about half the weight. I also remained more conscientious about eating healthier foods and smaller portions.

Healthy Fruits and Vegetables. By Mark Stebnicki.

Therefore, when it came time for my second fast I actually had slightly less excess body fat to shed. It is no surprise then, that I lost “only” just over six pounds of body fat during my second 5-day ProLon fast. To me, that’s still a lot to lose in less than a week. So pretty good weight loss results! But as explained above, ProLon is not really a weight loss diet. That just happens to be a “side benefit” to the internal rejuvenation that fasting initiates.

The second time doing ProLon was easier than the first because I knew what to expect. I was able to use the tips and tricks learned during my first experience to make this one a relative breeze. The end results were not less impactful, though. I once again felt invigorated and energetic, and better connected with my food. Not only did I crave less sugar and want more healthy vegetables and fruits, I also recognized the continued desire to eat less. I look forward to carrying these habits onward for on-going improved health. And honestly, I look forward to my next fast, too!

A reinvigorated body, a renewed view on food and a healthy outlook feel like a big success to me. So if you ask me: yes, ProLon really does work.

I hope you have found this information to be useful. And hopefully a bit compelling, as well. If you’re interesting in resetting your metabolism, rejuvenating your body and increasing your longevity (and losing a few pounds along the way), don’t wait to give the Fasting Mimicking Diet a try. There is no better time than now to start changing your habits and your to be the healthy person you want to be!
